Dress Code, Cover Charge, Bottle Service, Pool Parties, info. Clubbing In Vegas
A friend of mine asked if I could help illustrate what the cover charge, dress code, bottle service, and pool parties information is in Las Vegas.
Dress Code
No athletic gear
Men, please wear shirts with a collar and/ or buttons.
Most clubs won't allow hats to be worn in the club.
Women should be dressed up, but are usually allowed to wear jeans if they have a dressy top on.
Shoes should be worn at all times.
Men usually are not permitted to wear "Trainers" or "Tennis Shoes".
Women can get away with wearing flats or a wedge style of flip flop so long as they are dressy and not for the beach.
Cover Charge
Local ladies often enjoy waived entrance fees to most clubs unless there is a very high profile artist/ dj performing.
Ladies who do not live in Las Vegas usually pay $10 to $20 for cover charge. Many times a club will have a 'ladies night' where all ladies are free. Sometimes clubs will give free entrance and free drinks to women who dress in theme for the night.
Men pay cover charge of $10 to $30. If people want to 'cut in line' they usually charge $150 and the men still must pay up to $30 cover charge after doing so.
Bottle Service
Bottle service in Las Vegas clubs starts at $150 and can go to $1000 per three or four people, men or women. Bottle service includes cover charge, a table, a bottle of alcohol and mixer ingredients, and seating for three to four people. This does not include the tip for the server. The bottle service is usually considered to last for one and a half hours.
Making connections with a vip host in advance, calling the club of choice directly to make reservations, or emailing or texting club personnel is helpful in arranging a table or bottle service.
Las Vegas Pool Parties
Editor's note: The latest poolside trend for Las Vegas is 'European Style Sunbathing' which is a euphemism for 'topless' sunbathing. Don't know if it will catch on, but might be worth "watching" this trend.(Haha!) Also see the excellant 2007 Vegas Pool Guide article from Vegas Pop.
The pools are opening soon or have already opened in Las Vegas.
Tao poolside is a new venture for Tao and The Venetian Hotel. Food is catered from Wolfgang Puck, massage therapy is available, and bottle service is encouraged. Open daily.
Rehab in the Hard Rock Hotel is a day long party on Sunday. This party is usually packed with patrons partying hard. There is a cover charge for everyone, local, ladies and gents. The dress code for many of the pool parties is swimwear attire, no shorts.
Bare in the Mirage has been open unofficially for approximately one month. The official grand opening party was held last weekend. The cocktail servers are topless.
"Ditch Friday's" at the Palms is run by the n9ne management.
The pool party at the Red Rock Hotel and Resort in Summerlin has the benefit of being adjacent to the club Cherry. DJ's perform and can be heard poolside. There is a bar and cocktail waitresses.
or pick up a copy of Las Vegas City Life, Las Vegas Weekly, Las Vegas Magazine, Club Planet magazine, or 944 magazine.
*Hotel guests can gain free entrance to many clubs with their room key for proof of patronage of the hotel. There is usually a time limit, such as "before midnight."
*High gaming, or "High Rollers" are often given free entrance and possibly other perks such as bottle service, but not guaranteed, in the nightclub of the hotel they are gaming in.

How much money do dealers make is the question of the day from Yahoo Answers. The answer by "somebody in the profession" is:
"It varies so much across the country, but you can easily expect to make $65K-90K."
What is it like to work as a casino craps dealer?
"Casinos are full of noise. Mainly, it's the ring and clang of the slot sections. If it's hollering and screaming, you can bet it's coming from the craps pit. Craps is the fast game, the exciting game. Many agree that it's the best bet in the entire place.
The following is an interview of a dual rate, craps boxman and floorman. That is a person that's carried on the payroll as a boxman, but has to perform duties of a floorman several nights a week, and on those nights, he is paid as a floorman..."
I would be interested in hearing from Las Vegas dealers about their experiences working in a casino. I'm sure there are many interesting stories! I will publish them here, anonymously. (send to: Mike_L_Fisher at Yahoo.com)

"A quick note from Las Vegas to let you all know what a warm, comforting and quiet town it has remained. Truly, this is a place that time has forgot. They have retained the charm of the frontier town just as it was founded in 1805. It is a marvelous, transcendental town full of generous people and possessing the Judeo-Christian values we all seek to improve in our lives. There has been a small amount of construction, but it is always done in the frontier style and is very much in keeping with the “old general store” look of this valley town. It is an inviting place, where people from all walks of life are made to feel right at home by the gentle touch of the natives in their colorful garb. Truly, Las Vegas is a trip back in time and a slice of genuine Americana."
I love sarcasm! Thanks for the great blog entry and video, Steve at Worst Attitude Ever I kind of miss the "Old Vegas" and am not always excited about the direction Vegas is growing going.
Some may argue that this is off topic for this blog. I respectfully disagree! Is not Vegas part of the Earth? Perhaps not - everybody comes here to escape from the world. Vegas is out of this world, some say. Nothing like arguing both sides of the case.
Well, I'll leave it up to you to decide. Wherever you come from, be kind to the Earth, it's the only planet we have.
"The 25 million Americans who rely on the Colorado River for water should expect continued — and even worsening — drought spells and water shortages as rising temperatures and growing populations create a double whammy, experts warned in a new report.
Water conservation measures have helped somewhat, but consumption has boomed in certain areas. For example, Nevada's Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, saw water use double from 1985 to 2000.
'The combination of limited water supplies, rapidly increasing populations, warmer regional temperatures, and the specter of recurrent drought point to a future in which the potential for conflict among existing and prospective new water users will prove endemic,' the research council said in a statement that accompanied the report."
"Criss Angel takes us on a personal tour of his surreal world, a special place where he seamlessly blends illusion and reality. Prepare yourself for a stunning look into his mind, life, and philosophy. A relentless work ethic combined with enormous talent, skill, and vision has established Criss as one of the most provocative artists of our day. From being buried alive to levitation, being suspended by hooks from a helicopter, and walking up the side of a building, Criss gives a behind-the-scenes look at an artistry that has baffled millions. And as he continues to push the envelope, he proves a remarkable truth every day: Anything is possible."
Two bored casino dealers are waiting at the crap table. A very attractive blonde woman from Alabama arrived and bet twenty-thousand dollars ($20,000) on a single roll of the dice. She said, “I hope you don’t mind, but I feel much luckier when I play topless.” With that, she stripped to the waist; rolled the dice; and yelled, “Come on, baby…. Southern Girl needs new clothes!”
As the dice came to a stop, she jumped up-and-down… And squealed… “YES! YES! I WON! I WON!”
She hugged each of the dealers… And then picked up her winnings and her clothes, and quickly departed.
The dealers stared at each other dumbfounded. Finally, one of them asked, “What did she roll?”
The other answered, “I don’t know… I thought you were watching.”
Moral —
Not all Southerners are stupid. Not all blondes are dumb. But, all men….. Are still men

The Inside Scoop
Is Las Vegas a true 24-7 town?
Yes.
Is the clubbing scene 7 nights per week?
You bet!
Just do your homework, plan ahead, make connections, and have a back-up contingency plan.
There are many local venues which support 'Electronic/ House/ Techno/ live dj'ing. But to be 100% honest, it's the venues which play a variety of music, including top forty, hip hop, mash-ups, and a moderate amount of house that receive most of the attention in the media and garner most of the tourist traffic.
If you find there is a particular club you are itchin' to get inside of, you can hang around the gaming tables, hotel lobby, or the entrance of the club itself during dinner / cocktail hour to see if perhaps a VIP Host is around giving out info./guest passes to the club that night.
You might want to network with the VIP hosts before your trip, via email,or texts to arrange to buy bottle service for you and your party to ensure entrance to the club you desire.
Las Vegas has grown from one after- hours club and three nightclubs to at least 30 clubs and three solid after-hours clubs.
International dj's - party through the week!
International dj's with recording contracts come through Las Vegas in a controlled manner:
Sundays they can be heard at Revolution , The Beatles Lounge in the Mirage.
Monday evenings they spin at Godspeed, the party at The Foundation Room in Mandalay Bay.
Tuesday evenings they perform at Studio 54.
Wednesday evenings MINISTRY OF SOUND presents international dj's at BODY ENGLISH
Thursday nights international talent gets to take over the main room of JET in the Mirage.
Friday evenings Reson8 party at the ICEHOUSE lounge in the downtown arts district of Las Vegas brings 4 to 10 dj's who are: local, regional, national, and/or sometimes international.
Saturday for Late Night Empire, International talent takes the main room while local dj's and many times another up-and-coming touring dj accompanies the headliner either in the lounge room, the patio, or simply 'opens' for the headlining dj'.
Mingling With The Crowd
Nightclubs often will have celebrities celebrating their birthday at a club. People seem to enjoy attending a party knowing they're in the midst of a celeb.'tyin' one on' so to speak.
There are still some great 'entry-level' no-cover events with dj's getting down and dirty with the possibility of dj's who are visiting sin city in hopes of gigging here can hit the 'open decks'.
Put simply, the club scene in Las Vegas has grown so large that often the lounge bars in the main hallway adjacent to the gaming tables of many hotels has a dj in ADDITION to the mega-club to accommodate the patrons who are unable to gain entry to the main club of choice.

Even though it was published last year, this book is worth a second look. The site of the day is Las Vegas Dreams which highlights the book. It might also have been a great TV series ( and hopefully one day it still will be!) but for a series of unfortunate incidents in the failed formation of the Las Vegas Television Network (LVTN), which was a partnership initiated in January 2005 by Robin Leach and Nathan Draige. I still think it was a great idea to start a television network covering "all things Vegas".
This site is still worth visiting for the profiles of people & properties, and the book, which took over two-and-one half years of research, writing and editing, is still timely & worthy of purchasing -- a nice addition to any coffee table. The site and book features interviews & profiles of Vegas' most fascinating people and profiles on the most exciting places to visit in Las Vegas:

Last night I was hanging out at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas. I went over to say hello to my friend BUCKLEY, who is the dj at Simon on Fridays, Sundays and other dates as well. He mentioned they had the pre-Vegas Grand Prix party there at SIMON kitchen on Wednesday night with most of the Vegas Grand Prix drivers in attendance as well as many press personnel and executives from the race. While we were speaking, I couldn't help but notice that JON BON JOVI was dining at Simon. Kewl! BUCKLEY also mentioned that the HARD ROCK HOTEL is sponsoring a car for the VEGAS GRAND PRIX...and he said he thought it was PURPLE like many of their moving vehicles color and aesthetics. Fabulous! Now we can look for the Hard Rock Car on Sunday when they broadcast the 1st VEGAS GRAND PRIX (on NBC nationally 1PM -3 PM Pacific Daylight Savings Time ).
I moved on to BODY ENGLISH for their Friday night party called "INDULGE". I was so excited to have my friends from out of town with me, and one of my local best mates with me, to go into one of Vegas's 'hottest' clubs. I have to admit I usually stay away from Friday nights unless pressed, due to my erroneous thinking that it's "tourist" night or "amateur" night. Boy was I wrong! BODY ENGLISH rocked!
FRANKIE B clothing line had a fabulous fashion show in the main room. ( SEE VIDEO ABOVE ). Ladies not only got in for free, they drank free champagne all night long. How hard can that be? I was "INDULGING". It's the details that make Body English so highly sought after: real glass ashtrays and stemware, faucets in the bathrooms shaped like exotic birds? well they're these HUGE brass swans maybe... anyway they're cool as B**P, the textures for the seating is plush, the lighting system is great, the "free" champagne was not sour tasting, there are plenty of places to stand and dance as well as a plethora of VIP booths. We love electronic music so we networked our way into the side room, or the VIP area dubbed "The House ROOM". It's a tiny space but the sound from those heavy speakers freaking resonated right through all of us!
The dj fully kicked arse, as my friends from the UK were noting. We were dancing up a sweat. We ended our night eating food at Mr. Lucky's 24-7 eatery in the Hard Rock.
Not in seven years of living here in sin city have I spent the entire night, let alone the entire FRIDAY night in one hotel.

Vegas swimming pools, niteclubs, trip reports, lounges, music, gentlemen's clubs, buffets, tourism, etc. are all fair game topics here. "All Things Las Vegas!" ( Including, curiously, the condition of Mike's heart! ).
Our "webmaster" keeps all kinds of statistics. It is interesting to see which WHV topics are visited most often. Here are the current top ten hottest topics or popular posts, starting with the most popular first:
A lady is having a bad day at the tables in Vegas. Down to her last $100, completely exasperated, she cries, "What rotten luck! What in the world should I do now?"
A gent next to her, trying to calm her down a bit, calmly suggests, "I don't know... Why don't you play your age?"
He walks away. Moments later, his he is intrigued to hear a great commotion at the roulette table. Maybe, she won!
Rushing back to the table and pushing his way through the crowd, he is stunned to see the lady lying limp on the floor, with the table operator kneeling over her.
He asks, "What happened? Is she all right?"
The operator replies, "I don't know, buddy.... She put all her money on 29. When 36 came up she fainted!"

The Beatles Revolution Lounge being open seven nights per week is helping to keep the image of Las Vegas as being the type of city that is really 24-7 and not just part of the slogan to help market sin city.
Ink, from Canada opened the club in late December 2006, just six months after the successful launch of The Beatles Cirque du Soleil LOVE.
The cd soundtrack for LOVE by The Beatles has been the number one selling cd in the world: fueled by rave reviews and sold out shows since April's opening of the show.
LOVE and Revolution have been integral parts of a multifaceted approach to recreating the image of The Mirage. Revolution Lounge has a different theme of music each night of the week to ensure that locals and tourists alike are assured of variety.
The Abbey Road bar is situated just outside of Revolution lounge to offer the passerby a quick alcoholic refreshment and a sneak peak of the action inside the club.
The word "REVOLUTION" with benches cleverly placed inside the letters offers patrons a place to sit or for the go go dancers to perch while shimmying to the music.
Monday evenings the cast of Cirque du Soleil are in attendance at Revolution while LOVE is dark. DJ Sarah FAB plays music while Cirque performers strut and occasionally offer improvisational performances of their skills.
Tuesdays at Revolution, called "FOREVER", offer lounge, electronica and downtempo sounds.
Wednesday evenings are dubbed "Come Together" and are considered Industry or Local appreciation night, with offers of 2 for 1 bottle service and a Top 40 play list.
Thursday evenings are called "THIS IS LONDON". DJ Mestizo Six9 plays the best of the British invasion music including Depeche Mode, The Cure, Blur and more.
Fridays and Saturday evenings patrons can expect an eclectic mix of music all night long for their party "Let It Be."
Sundays the party's name is "Hacienda" or "House". Resident host DJ Luca, aka Digital Boy (myspace.com/lucadigitalboy) begins the evenings with a variety of house and popular music with timely songs to help get the crowd ready for the international dj's who perform as headliners. Past headliners have been Tommy Lee of Rockstar Supernova for a dj set and recording artist, remixer , and music producer Kaskade. April 15th veteran dj and music producer Louie Vega will be the headlining dj.
They Might Be Giants are almost done recording their upcoming album, The Else. They will also be touring this spring, making a May 18th appearance at The Orleans Showroom
This amazing story hot off the press from Water Wired (re-posted with permission of the author):
'In a surprising April 1 press conference, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) unveiled plans to transform the Lower Colorado River into a massive canal that would provide ocean-going ships access to Las Vegas. General Alberto "Al" Muerzo, P.E., civil works head of the USACE's South Pacific Division, and Mr. Richard "Dick" Cabeza, P.E., Regional Director of the USBR's Lower Colorado Region, met before dozens of reporters and dignitaries to describe the 20-year, $600 billion project, known as the Colorado River Access Project (CRAP). Cabeza said "CRAP will indeed transform the southwestern USA by providing direct shipping access to the ocean. Yuma and Las Vegas will become deep-water ports. Cruise and container ships will be able to reach Las Vegas and regurgitate their human and other cargo. It's awesome!" Muerzo added that the capstone of the world's largest engineering project will be a lock system that will raise ships above Hoover Dam into Lake Mead, which will be dredged. "I mean, I thought the Corps' project to straighten the Mississippi was something, but this is unreal. Gees, big boats in the desert! Whoa!" he gushed.
Anthony "Tony the Roach" Pizzeria, spokesman for Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman (unable to attend because of a grand jury appearance) said Mayor Goodman was "real entoosiastic." Pizzeria continued: "Dis project will truly make Vegas into a woild-class city. We dunno wadda say. Jus tink - all dem construction workers, sailors, and merchant seamen lookin' for somethin' to do. Already we are startin' to issue brothel permits", said Pizzeria. Clark County DA Hugh Jeego said he was most interested in the Lake Mead dredging, as he expected to be able to solve hundreds of missing persons cases. Jeego elaborated: "With all the concrete at the bottom of Lake Mead, I bet we could build another Hoover Dam! Forget the Meadowlands - I betcha Jimmy Hoffa's down there. Man, I could be on CSI!"
Dubai Ports World, which gained notoriety in its failed attempt to operate ports in six East Coast cities, will be named operator for the new Port of Las Vegas. Sheikh Ali bin-Dovr, spokesman for DPW, expressed great pride in landing the contract. "My countrymen have been coming to Las Vegas for many years to be serviced. It is now time to return the favor, and we will be honored to service Las Vegas." When asked about DPW's treatment of women, he replied " Hey, no hay problema. We already have plans to introduce casual Fridays, on which some of our secretaries will be permitted to wear colored burkhas - with their husbands' permission, of course."
Sunny Summer-Day, reporter for the Arizona Cilbuper, inquired as to the acquiescence of the Mexican government, since part of the canal would be in Mexican territory. "The what of the Mexican government? Oh. Hey, no hay problema!" replied Muerzo in his best Spanish. "We've already bribed the politicians and the drug cartels, and besides the Mexican engineering firm ABRIL-TONTO will handle the Mexican CRAP," he added. Muerzo went on to say that Mexican President Calderon has long been a big supporter of CRAP.
Department of Homeland Security spokewoman Tomasina "Tommie" Gunn hailed the project as an important component of national security. '"There will be thousands of Mexicans working for ABRIL-TONTO on the Mexican side, so they won't try to sneak into the USA," she said. She added that the Mexican portion of the canal will be hand-dug so as to maximize employment and kickbacks to government officials and drug kingpins, which will keep things muy tranquilo.
Reporters questioned Cabeza and Muerzo about the wisdom of proposing a huge public-works project in a time of massive deficits, the rebuilding of New Orleans, and the Iraq War. They deferred to White House spokeswoman April Foolz, who was quick to respond: "Both President Bush and Vice-President Cheney have promoted CRAP to Congress and the American people for over six years, so the time is right. We are confident that CRAP will prevail and that Congress will pass CRAP". Foolz continued: "Furthermore, the project will not cost the taxpayers one thin dime. It will be funded by the interest income from the Social Security trust fund and a surcharge on the oil we will pump in Iraq through 2025, when US military operations are slated to maybe perhaps end. It's a slam dunk!" Cabeza added that the benefit-cost ratio calculated by Dr. Haywood U. Gonow, the Meyer Lanksy Professor of Creative Accounting at UNLV's Department of Economics, was 309.231/1. "Or maybe it was 1/309.231. Dang! I always get that mixed up! But hey, no hay problema, we are in good hands," he added.
When asked about the benefits to and the effects on the various indigenous peoples who depend upon and live along the river, Cabeza said "Come again? The who? They live where?"
Muerzo mentioned that environmentalists would be mollified by the comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), prepared by Nevada State University's Department of Home Economics. The study found that the canal and its construction would not harm any living things, because the Colorado River flows through a desert. "Everyone knows nothing can live in a desert, so you can't harm what isn't there," said the EIS director, Dr. Ima Shill. "I mean, have you been to Yuma in August? I mean, it's so friggin' hot there you can fry burgers on a rock. I'd rather live in New Jersey than spend a day in Yuma during the summer. Have you ever been to New Jersey? Let me tell you..." Upon questioning, she added: "All we found were some wealthy geezers around Lake Havasu City and some farmers around Yuma. So, no hay problema!" beamed Shill.
A spokesman for Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), Ken Frito-Lay, said the Senator would immediately seek Department of Defense authorization to designate Las Vegas an official Navy service port, where all types of naval fleet "servicing" can occur. "Las Vegas has far more to offer the Navy than does San Diego, and besides, it is not nearly as corrupt. It can also begin "servicing" the Navy even before the ships arrive," he said. In another jab at San Diego, Frito-Lay introduced Las Vegas' new motto: "America's Finest City - Sort Of." '
