Keep Your Top On At Tao Beach Las Vegas

OK. here is my spin on Tao Beach's decision to "put a lid on it" , so to speak. The Venetian does not want to scare away the upscale tourist trade who aren't interested in going to a pool where unsophisticated young men gawk at women and try to convince them to take their tops off like they are at the Mardi Gras or on location with "Girls Gone Wild" Spring break. Not exactly what I would call European style sophistication. How do you separate the "gawkers" from the sophisticates? So it is a kind of "backlash" on toplessness.

I do understand that there is a great difference between topless sunbathing and topless swimming, but I really don't want to go into the finer details. Some pools restrict one or the other. I can't speak from experience here. ( I will have to plan an investigative field trip to get to the bottom of it - or is that get on top? ;)

Expect some of the higher end properties that cater to the more sophisticated and perhaps older demographic to follow with the "keep your top on" policy. Or maybe the "trend" will continue? We will all keep watching.

------------------

The "Survivors"

  • Mandalay Bay's Moorea Beach Club

Set amidst the famous Mandalay Bay Beach, yet seemingly a world away, Moorea Beach Club provides guests 21 and older with an upscale place to indulge. European bathing with a fantastic view of the sand and surf, cushioned chaise lounges, high-energy music and personalized attendants provide an elite day-club environment. Special inset panels on the frosted glass wall overlooking the beach provide screening during daytime hours but, with removal in the evening, unobstructed VIP viewing of the Mandalay Bay Concerts on the Beach.

There is an admission charge to access this club. The area turns into a nightclub on weekends. The club opens at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 11 p.m. on Sunday

  • The Venus pool at Caesars Palace

The Venus pool, which allows European-style topless bathing, is also home to the Venus Pool Club beginning spring season and throughout the summer months. Equipped with luxurious cabanas, over sized chaise lounges and air-conditioned bars complete with flat-screen TVs, the Venus Pool Club is the epitome of decadence and luxury. Guests can even enjoy frozen towel service, Evian face spritzers and body massages while soaking in the sun.

  • Bare Pool at the Mirage

  • Wynn's European "topless" pool

The pool sits on an upper level, just behind the main pool area.

There is a European style bathing area where tops are optional. Since this is the hot new pool that everyone wants to go to, you will hear all sorts of languages being spoken when you visit what is without a doubt one of the most luxurious and among the best topless pools in Las Vegas. If you're not quite ready to bare it all at the Wynn Topless Pool, there are plenty of tanning beds around the pool.

  • Stratosphere Hotel Casino

Beach Club 25 opened in October 2004, and permits topless sunbathing. There is an admission charge for men ($10) but women are admitted free.

From Norm's column at the Review Journal:

Bikini tops are back in vogue at Tao Beach, after a brief experiment as a topless pool venue at The Venetian. The 18,000-square-foot European-style beach club opened May 4, joining a half dozen other tops-optional venues.

The owners pulled the plug quickly. Operations ceased in June "due to management's decision to create a different experience," a Tao insider said.

"It was more of a brand decision," according to a source close to the New York-based company. "They decided to pull back and focus on a more sophisticated crowd."

Located on the roof, away from the main pool, Tao Beach was an extension of Tao Asian Bistro and Tao nightclub. It was a topless venue from 10 a.m. to sunset, then turned into a nightclub.

The Xtine Report: clubs in Vegas schedule, pool party info. etc

What's Happening Now!
The very latest post from the talented local personality Xtine from Global Peace GrooVes Christine - she is a very knowledgeable insider on the local Vegas club scene, and nightlife.

Here's a quick update to some of the clubbing schedule in Las Vegas:

First I want to congratulate Chad Palais of Rehab in The Hard Rock Hotel. NBC's Today show featured an interview with Chad about the pool parties in "sin city". They showed footage of the long running Rehab party. Rehab is on Sundays poolside at the Hard Rock Hotel. cover charge varies.

Club Schedule Updates

  • Tao Sunset Beach is turning one month old this week. Jada Fire has been added to the lineup of entertainers. Several DJ's perform including Digital Boy. Food (delicious I might add) is passed around by lovely servers dressed in red sarongs over flesh toned bikinis. Tao beach is open daily and is offering yoga class from Jada Fire.

  • Ditch Friday's is the pool party at The Palms. Several radio stations do relay from the pool party. The party is sponsored by Right Gin and Miller Lite. The Palms pool is sometimes open for a similar type of party, if not a 'normal' opening of the pool is available during at least four months of the year at The Palms as well as most hotels on the strip.

  • Bare is in The Mirage. It's been open seven days per week for four months. Originally the servers were topless, hence the name Bare, but I've heard from at least one attendee of the party that the servers are now clothed.

  • Double Down Saloon is a mainstay of Vegas with a 24- 7 open policy and never a cover charge. There is live music nightly and food and drinks are offered at modest if not meager fees. There is sometimes DJ's on the decks as well.

  • Moon in the Playboy tower of the Palms hotel started their Tues. night party this week. Now Moon is open from Tues. through Sunday, making it a five night club.

  • Late Night Empire has been hosting KLUC's 98.5 FM electronic dance music program on Friday nights for one month now. Friday June 15th Mike Remedy and Blake LaBounty are djing at Late Night Empire.

  • Saturday June 16th, Peter Bailey and Joey Mazzola DJ. Peter Bailey is a resident DJ from Pacha NYC. His myspace page is www.myspace.com/djpeterbailey.

  • Revolution in The Mirage is open 7 nights per week. On Sunday's international DJ talent graces the decks. Luca aka Digital Boy is the hosting DJ. June 10th Steve Lawler is the guest DJ. June 15th brings back Tommy Lee and Aero to do a DJ set. (Shredding I might add. Check My Videos of six minutes compilation of audio and video.)

  • Krave has a naked student night 18 + June 20th.

  • Jack Colton and Tracy Lee are having a week long celebration of the relaunch of www.jackcolton.com and the five year anniversary of www.napkinnights.com by going clubbing till they drop. They're starting their week at The Lucky Strike Bowling alley in The Rio on Monday, June 11th.

Club Dress Codes

People are wondering what the dress code is for clubs in Las Vegas. Basically you might be able to get away with wearing "trainers" if they're meticulously clean and the rest of your attire is smoking hot or considered club worthy or dressy.

Men usually are asked to be wearing a shirt with a collar and perhaps some buttons.

If you're going to a pool party please have a bathing suit under your shorts or skirt or sarong or sundress.

www.napkinnights.com

or pick up a copy of the free local weekly newspapers City Life or Las Vegas Weekly.

Peace out
- "Xtine on the sin city scene"

I attended the official after party for Ocean's 13 at Moon on Wed. June 6th and saw Charles Feelgood shred on the decks at Ministry of Sound in Body English on Wed. as well.

DJ Dan will perform at Body English with Jack LeFleur on Wednesday June 13th in the main room of Body English. This party has been only running for two months.

If you like electronic dance music, consider supporting this type of party.

Las Vegas nightlife now at its hottest in broad daylight

Related LA Times Article: Las Vegas nightlife now at its hottest in broad daylight:

By Kimi Yoshino
Los Angeles Times

LAS VEGAS -- On a Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas, at the hottest pool party in town, the Hard Rock Hotel's Jack LaFleur is the man to know. The promotions director stands at the velvet rope, deciding who will shake their booties in the sun and who won't.

"Only girls, send 'em up!" LaFleur barks as a stream of twentysomething, bikini-clad girls hop the line, leaving a couple of hundred men in their wake. "No more guys. It's out of control."

This is Rehab, Las Vegas' best-known, biggest and craziest pool party. In the 21 Sundays it will operate this year, hotel executives estimate that Rehab will rake in about $6 million nearly $35,000 every hour it's open. As many as 3,000 tanned and toned bodies find their way into Rehab each week, where they play swim-up blackjack, gulp down $17 cocktails served in 30-ounce plastic jugs and make out under waterfalls, on chaise lounges and, well, just about anywhere.

Since it began in 2004, Rehab has transformed Vegas' daytime scene into a "Girls Gone Wild" tableau of debauchery. Today, almost every major casino resort has nightclub operators managing their 21-and-over pools. They hire DJs to spin music and demand hefty cover charges.

Several resorts have separate "Euro-style," or top-optional, pools, with half-naked girls cavorting in the water...

Clubbing In Las Vegas

What's Happening Now!
The very latest post from the talented local personality Xtine from Global Peace GrooVes Christine - she is a very knowledgeable insider on the local Vegas club scene, and nightlife.

Dress Code, Cover Charge, Bottle Service, Pool Parties, info. Clubbing In Vegas

A friend of mine asked if I could help illustrate what the cover charge, dress code, bottle service, and pool parties information is in Las Vegas.

  • Dress Code

    • No athletic gear

    • Men, please wear shirts with a collar and/ or buttons.

    • Most clubs won't allow hats to be worn in the club.

    • Women should be dressed up, but are usually allowed to wear jeans if they have a dressy top on.

    • Shoes should be worn at all times.

    • Men usually are not permitted to wear "Trainers" or "Tennis Shoes".

    • Women can get away with wearing flats or a wedge style of flip flop so long as
they are dressy and not for the beach.

  • Cover Charge

    • Local ladies often enjoy waived entrance fees to most clubs unless there is a very high profile artist/ dj performing.

    • Ladies who do not live in Las Vegas usually pay $10 to $20 for cover charge. Many times a club will have a 'ladies night' where all ladies are free. Sometimes clubs will give free entrance and free drinks to women who dress in theme for the night.

    • Men pay cover charge of $10 to $30. If people want to 'cut in line' they usually charge $150 and the men still must pay up to $30 cover charge after doing so.

  • Bottle Service

Bottle service in Las Vegas clubs starts at $150 and can go to $1000 per three or four people, men or women. Bottle service includes cover charge, a table, a bottle of alcohol and mixer ingredients, and seating for three to four people. This does not include the tip for the server. The bottle service is usually considered to last for one and a half hours.

Making connections with a vip host in advance, calling the club of choice directly to make reservations, or emailing or texting club personnel is helpful in arranging a table or bottle service.

  • Las Vegas Pool Parties

Editor's note: The latest poolside trend for Las Vegas is 'European Style Sunbathing' which is a euphemism for 'topless' sunbathing. Don't know if it will catch on, but might be worth "watching" this trend.(Haha!) Also see the excellant 2007 Vegas Pool Guide article from Vegas Pop.

    • The pools are opening soon or have already opened in Las Vegas.

    • Tao poolside is a new venture for Tao and The Venetian Hotel. Food is catered from Wolfgang Puck, massage therapy is available, and bottle service is encouraged. Open daily.

    • Rehab in the Hard Rock Hotel is a day long party on Sunday. This party is usually packed with patrons partying hard. There is a cover charge for everyone, local, ladies and gents. The dress code for many of the pool parties is swimwear attire, no shorts.

    • Bare in the Mirage has been open unofficially for approximately one month. The official grand opening party was held last weekend. The cocktail servers are topless.

    • "Ditch Friday's" at the Palms is run by the n9ne management.

    • The pool party at the Red Rock Hotel and Resort in Summerlin has the benefit of being adjacent to the club Cherry. DJ's perform and can be heard poolside. There is a bar and cocktail waitresses.

For more clubbing information, please visit:
thecircuitlv.com
spyonvegas.com
napkinnights.com

or pick up a copy of Las Vegas City Life, Las Vegas Weekly, Las Vegas Magazine, Club Planet magazine, or 944 magazine.

*Hotel guests can gain free entrance to many clubs with their room key for proof of patronage of the hotel. There is usually a time limit, such as "before midnight."

*High gaming, or "High Rollers" are often given free entrance and possibly other perks such as bottle service, but not guaranteed, in the nightclub of the hotel they are gaming in.
