The country superstar announced on Wednesday that she will begin a two-year residency, "Shania: Still the One," at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, opening Dec. 1, 2012.

There’s no shortage of nearly-bare men in Las Vegas; there’s probably at least four revues running currently on the Strip. “Naked Boys Singing!” features seven men that want you to know that it’s a musical that just happens to have naked boys singing.
The show at Las Vegas’ intimate Onyx Theatre celebrated its 77th performance on June 18th, 2009. Its run has been extended indefinitely, and if the audiences are any indication of the support and enthusiasm this show has received, there will be lots more opportunities to catch this clever, funny musical.
“Naked Boys Singing!” celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. It has had productions in New York, Los Angeles, as well as worldwide. Sometimes the show runs into trouble with audience expectations, as was shown in Puerto Rico, where the show was shut down because of the nudity.
The actors I interviewed want audiences to know that “it’s a fun show, very unique, and it’s the only fully nude production in Las Vegas, and there is no audience participation.” Nolan Christopher spent two years in the production in Chicago. One can only imagine how chilly the actors must have been during the wintertime!
The cast is made up of trained actors, singers, and dancers. Christopher is in the cast of “Tony & Tina’s Wedding” while others work as singing gondoliers at the Venetian or in other productions.
Once you get over the initial shock of seeing fully nude men singing and dancing, you start paying attention to other things, like the clever, funny, and sometimes poignant songs that highlight the vulnerability of men. The show’s 16 songs were written by a group of writers with various showbiz pedigrees, and they keep the audience interested and laughing throughout.
The show is marketed to mostly gays and women. They would like to promote the show to bachelorette parties, women’s fairs, and bridal shows. The Onyx Theatre, located off East Sahara in the Commercial Center, is a small venue located inside a clothing and fetish store called The Rack. “Naked Boys Singing!” is its longest-running show, and the cast reports that owner Michael Morse has been very supportive during its run.
So if you want to catch a hilarious and entertaining musical inside Las Vegas’ “leading alternative theatrical and performance space” that happens to be performed by talented men in the buff, then this show is for you.

Root of All Evil: The Human Body vs Las Vegas, Hosted By Lewis Black
I am not a fan of this show and I don't think it will last past season one. But, I do like Lewis Black's satirical humor, and would like to see his show in Vegas. He is severely hampered in "The Root Of All Evil" by scripting and his role as "Judge".
Since tonight's show on the Comedy Central cable channel features a faux courtroom debate on which is more evil, Vegas or the human body, I had to include the above clip, if only for historical reference.
I vote for Vegas. I always vote for Vegas. But if the human body didn't have certain needs and drives, there would be no Vegas. So I guess I'll have to tune in tonight.

I remember watching Monty Python's Flying Circus on a black and white TV set back in the 70's - actually adjusting a set of rabbit ears, waiting for the weekly broadcast, since no recording media was available ( there was no podcast for Monty back then!) I guess that makes me an original fan. But I have never actually eaten spam. In my old National Guard unit we had one individual who had memorized about 10 Monty Python skits, and he got us through many nights of guard duty entertaining us. You just know I'll be attending a preview performance. And now for something completely different ...

I had the pleasure of seeing Hairspray at the Luxor before it departed Vegas, and it was fantastic! Avenue Q has also come and gone. But there are still several shows currently worth seeing and the trend is eventually to make Las Vegas a kind of "Broadway West", so be on the lookout for new productions. Hint: Anything that the company Cirque Du Soleil does is worth seeing! (subject of a future blog entry)

The author includes some exciting “Broadway shows,” but there are a few additional productions I’d like to add to the list of must-sees:
Brainchild of Franco Dragone, the creator and director of many Cirque Du Soleil shows, Le Reve is making waves at the Wynn Las Vegas through its incorporation of pools.
Then you have all the Cirque Du Soleil shows – including Ka, Mystere, O, Zumanity and the Beatles – Love, which are really making their mark on the Las Vegas Strip:
Zumanity, especially, is attracting attention in Las Vegas as one of the racier shows at the New York New York Hotel & Casino. Billed as the “human zoo,” Zumanity is a sexy cabaret-style show featuring colorful and exciting “animals.”
Then you have the O show at the Bellagio – another aquatic show but with its own air of sophistication. Synchronized swimmers, high divers and beautiful imagery makes this one of my favorite shows.
Ka is the story of twins who represent the forces of good and evil and come under attack from forces that wish to tear the harmonious world apart. The show incorporates elements of martial arts and aerobatics to draw you in and make you believe in magic again.
Additionally, the Mirage is hosting Beatles – Love, which is the newest of the Cirque shows. Love is a tribute show done the way only Cirque Du Soleil can do it.
Finally you have Mystere at the Treasure Island. Mystere is the oldest Cirque show in Las Vegas, but that hasn’t stopped its momentum. Dancers, singers and other artists make up its international cast of 72 performers. This show was honored eight times by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as the Best Production Show.
With all the shows available to locals, it’s hard to choose which ones to see. I’m going to keep looking for new finds, and I’m excited to see what else is out there!
