Memorial Day Weekend in Las Vegas

May 25, 2007 09:21 PM from KLAS TV Las Vegas:

Memorial Day weekend is the "unofficial" start to summer, and Las Vegas Valley residents are getting ready to celebrate. Despite record high gas prices, travel is expected to be up on the road and in the skies.

The AAA motor club estimates more than 38 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles or more from home. About 84-percent of holiday travelers are expected to drive to their destination. More than 330,000 Nevadans are expected to hit the road this weekend and they will pay a new record gas price of around $3.27 a gallon.

Airports around the nation will be busy. About 11-percent of the holiday travelers will fly, depsite an increase in airfare. McCarran International Airport is expecting overcrowding in parking areas.

Check out links to some of the events happening around the valley:

On Monday, May 28th all federal, state, county and city offices will be closed. Schools and the U.S. Postal Service will also be closed.

I love the diversity of your information about everything Las Vegas, including links to the public pools, the weather, the housing market and more!
What's Happening Vegas is a one-stop-shop of info. about EVERYTHING Las Vegas! I want to express to everyone that Vegas only has two types of weather HOT or COLD, yes COLD. Plan on a light jacket at least in the winter months. It does have it's share of wind as well. After the sun goes down people often remark how chilly it feels even in spring and early fall when the wind kicks up. This is because there is very little moisture. The temperature drops rapidly. Best!
