Cinevegas Shows Some Beatles’ LOVE

I just received this press announcement from Cara Luttrell at Cirque du Soleil (702) 692-8335. Unfortunately it was a bit late for tonight's screening, but I will try to make it to Friday's showing of "All Together Now". I've always been a Beatles fan, remembering the first time I heard "I Want To Hold Your Hand" on the radio in 1963! So to be able to actually see the LOVE stage production tomorrow will be quite a thrill for me, more than you can imagine:

"Cirque du Soleil is an international organization founded in Quebec and dedicated to the production, and performance of artistic works whose mission is to invoke the imagination, provoke the senses, and evoke the emotions of people around the world."

Feature-Length Documentary Chronicles The Making Of The Beatles’ LOVE by Cirque du Soleil

Las Vegas (May 23, 2008) – As part of its tenth anniversary, CineVegas will present two screenings of Adrian Wills’ "All Together Now" in the Festival’s “Vegas Uncovered” section, a special section of documentaries about Las Vegas. The film details the story behind the unique partnership between The Beatles and Cirque du Soleil that resulted in the creation and launch of LOVE, the stage production still wowing audiences at The Mirage in Las Vegas, and the double Grammy-winning album of the same name. Screenings will be held at 7pm on Wednesday, June 18 and at 2pm on Friday, June 20 at the Brenden Theatres at the Palms Casino Resort. Tickets to each screening are $10 each and can be purchased online at www.cinevegas.com, by calling 888-8VEGAS8 or at the CineVegas Box Office at the Brenden Theatres at the Palms Casino Resort beginning Monday, June 2.

“CineVegas always strives to show films that take risks, because that is what the city of Las Vegas is all about,” said CineVegas Artistic Director Trevor Groth. “All Together Now" clearly demonstrates this risk-taking spirit, telling the story of two entertainment icons – The Beatles and Cirque du Soleil – coming together to create one of the most beloved shows in Las Vegas today.”

"All Together Now" faithfully recounts how the LOVE project came into being, born from the personal friendship between George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte. George saw how the twin talents of Cirque’s artistry and The Beatles’ music could be fused into something new and totally original. Wills records early meetings between the Cirque & Apple Corps Ltd. creative teams, as well as contributions from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, discussing how The Beatles’ music can be used in a different way.

The film chronicles the decision to utilize the combined talents of Sir George Martin and his son Giles Martin to produce what became a 90-minute soundscape created from The Beatles’ multi-track recordings and how this new audio adventure was being quietly worked on in the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, England whilst the first creative ideas for the show were being formulated in Montreal, Canada. It also includes the first rehearsals at the Mirage Hotel theatre in Las Vegas, which was completely rebuilt with a one-of-a-kind sound system and complex round staging to house the LOVE show.

It wasn’t all “plain-sailing” and there has been no attempt to disguise some of the disagreements that took place along the way regarding how some of the songs would be portrayed visually. These creative differences, a necessary part of the overall process of bringing LOVE to its most vibrant life, illustrate the participants’ love and respect for the music and vision of The Beatles.

Apple Corps Ltd./Cirque du Soleil will release the feature-length documentary on DVD later this year, which will be marketed and distributed worldwide by EMI Music.

  • Being the avid radio listener that I am, I caught the KNPR ( Nevada Public Radio ) show, State Of Nevada, that discussed the new documentary about Hank Greenspun “Where I Stand,” which is premiering at CineVegas. More information here. Hank Greenspun in many ways was as colorful a character as Howard Hughes. See a special showing at the Brandon Theatre at the Palms tomorrow at 1 PM. ( Admission: $10; $9 for students and seniors. Festival passes are also available, from $100 to $600; 992-7979, www.cinevegas.com ).

  • I am starting to visit the free lounge acts again. In search of the old Vegas! If it is free and I am not forced to pay for a drink, I'll be there! I was pleasantly surprised the other night to see a group called "Front Page" at the Plaza ( downtown )that was worth watching. When people are sitting at the slot machines and they stop gambling to listen, you know that the show has a certain appeal! ( See video below. )

Front Page Is Playing At The Plaza:
