Fashion’s Night Out Sparkles at Crystals at CityCenter Las Vegas

by Julie Kasperson

For the fourth annual Fashion’s Night Out, which is a one-night global celebration of fashion and style, I decided to attend the celebration at Crystals at City Center. Crystals is a high-end shopping area within the CityCenter complex. It was the only Fashion’s Night event in Las Vegas where you could support both the fashion industry and your favorite local charities.

Dozens of Crystals retailers partnered with different local charities and donated a percentage of that night’s sales to a particular cause. So you could shop till you dropped, take home freebies and swag, and help out a local charity while doing so!

When I first arrived, I took photos of the Model Showcase, which took place at the Main Stage catwalk and throughout Crystals. Then I was fortunate enough to witness a Nevada Ballet Theatre “flash mob” type performance, danced to jazz musician Pat Metheny’s classic “Are You Going With Me?” The performance piece started with one or two people, dressed to look like shoppers in the mall carrying shopping bags, then swelled to a whole group of male and female dancers, swaying and circling to the hypnotic instrumental jazz music.

I made my way upstairs to more shops and more champagne and appetizers, even chocolate-dipped strawberries, which were offered to shoppers in ERES women’s clothing store. Between the Piper-Heidsieck Champagne cocktails and the chocolate, I was in heaven! I stopped in Brunello Cucinelli to enjoy live a live jazz combo. Stella McCartney offered a surprise duet performance with dancers from Nevada Ballet Theatre. Kiki de Montparnasse, named after 1920’s artist Man Ray’s muse, teased us with live models in their store windows, while offering shoppers more champagne and cocktails while they shopped for luxury lingerie and other naughty merchandise.

There was a Vdara mini-spa set up where you could get a complimentary hand massage, win prizes, and get special resort discounts. Vdara is a non-gaming, smoke-free, eco-friendly, all-suite boutique hotel that is part of the CityCenter complex. You could preview costumes and watch a video of the new Cirque du Soleil’s show “Zarkana,” which will take the place of “Viva Elvis” opening November 1st at ARIA Resort and Casino, another hotel in the CityCenter complex.

Another highlight of the evening was a fashion trend presentation featuring Fall/Winter 2012 looks from Crystals at CityCenter’s fashion retailers on the main stage, worn by models, and hosted by famed stylist Patricia Field, who has worked on many TV shows, and known by many as the costume designer that gave the “Sex and the City” women their signature styles.

FNO was created to celebrate fashion, restore confidence, and boost the industry’s economy. I enjoy attending this free event because I love to people-watch and see the Fall/Winter fashions, as well as the fashions of the shoppers who wander into the event. Of course, I also love the fact that we are treated to champagne, appetizers, and even if only one night, I can pretend I’m living the high life and enjoy the clothing and the boutiques all around me.
