Happy Humble First Anniversary, WHV!

Free Birthday Note Generator

What's Happening Vegas is a very humble blog with very humble beginnings. I started it approximately a year ago with the un-lofty idea to use writing as a therapy --- a so called "creative outlet" --- to divert my attention from my then constant clinical depression, and also to pay for my cable modem bill. On both of these non altruistic counts, I have succeeded. But overall, WHV is probably a failure, in that I believe it is really impossible to convey what it is like for the average ( read: not too rich or poor ) local bloke to live in ( or near ) this great city of Las Vegas. To gain any insight into Vegas life, you would really have to move here and live here for awhile and come to your own conclusions --- being an occasional tourist is really not enough. Other blogs written by locals probably do a much better job conveying what life is like here in Vegas. In any case, Vegas is changing so quickly, for better or worse, that it is really hard to categorize anything about it.

So averaging one blog post per weekday ( but not uniformly ) with wildly varying quality and various levels of plagiarism, I look back and say it was maybe a good start at best. I have ideas to make this into a really great blog ( you know: PageRank 8 and 10,000 hits a day!). Unfortunately, my current health condition can not support the same efforts in the future, for what they are worth, and so I am inviting anybody who genuinely loves Las Vegas and can write decently about "All Things Vegas" to write to me about guest blogging or co-authoring this humble blog. My e-mail is embedded in my profile. You don't even have to live here to contribute!

There are many intangible social benefits to blogging. I would like to thank the several blogging friends I have made over the last year, some of whom are linked to in my side panel. These cyber-friendships have also helped to keep my sanity at times. Some day I would like to actually meet these wonderful people.

Lastly, but not leastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Christine ( Xtine ) from Global Peace GrooVes for her exceptionally useful contributions and excellent insights that may have kept this blog boat floating whilst I was bailing out the water and desperately trying to repair the leaks.

Yeah, Dave. Thanks. You are definitely on my list of humble cyber friends, don't worry. Ah, correction: you are on my list of (self described)"long-winded, self-indulgent blowhard" cyber friends... ;-)

Mike, Happy Blog Anniversary, and Strange it is almost to the day for our two year anniversary for our Los Vegas Trip. Since we didn’t drop one coin in a machine we came away as very big winners. Some shows, good food and fantastic memories.
Look forward to a future visit.

Definitely plan another trip, Lenny, and this time we will most definitely get together, I promise. (God willing and the creek don't rise...)

Happy First Anniversary and wishing you many more. You have taken our boring lives and let us live vicariously through your blog. Keep up the good work. IF your next year is a FRACTION of what this year was, it will be worth reading.

A very humble blog with humble beginnings? Oh, I get it! But not for long when the Pottsville Maroons get their 1925 National Football Championship returned. Come back to your humble beginnings...where you automatically double your life span - or at least it seems that way! Happy Anniversary, Miguel. Stay aware from the Mercury or you will wind up like the Mad Hatter!

Dear Ann Ominous, whoever you are:

Thanx for the blog comments. I don't have any desire to ingest Mercury ( an old cure for syphilis ?) but Zeolite would be OK. See, I can be obscure, too! :-)

Happy blogiversary Mike. Sorry I don't have anything to add to the whole Vegas thing though, I've never been there. One day though....

So sqt, you should really come to Vegas someday - there is some sci-fi (Area 51?), and a lot of "fantasy" here! Ummm, maybe not quite the same kind you blog about! :-)

Hey Mike,

I'm still plugging away on my own website redesign. You've been so supportive and helpful with suggestions. I'm renaming the site and adding loads new features and I'm going show you my demo first because you've been such a fan.

Later,

John

Hi John!

Funny, I was just looking at your cutevegasmap site yesterday and I also thought I saw a Google ad for you on Vegas Tripping, so I really have been following your progress. Looking good!

I need you to help me make a Flash animation ( intro ) page for Jimmy Limo! :-) Did you forget that you created the static banner ( Vegas skyline from top of the Stratoshere ) near the bottom of WHV?

Hi Laura,

Thanks again ( and again ) for the great pic of the Excalibur that became my blog header. C'mon down to Vegas as soon as you have a spare moment, whatever year that will be.
